I use babble.net now since it has the cheapest rate to the country I call the most. The audio part in Ekiga is not bad, but another non-commerce open-source project Twinkle seems to really rock with the audio part. The GUI in Ekiga is unbeatable though. Well, except that I can't set the SIP port which is annoying if I want to run Ekiga besides Twinkle or other SIP application - Ekiga seems to hang on several (all?) free ports used for SIP, so I have to start Ekiga after all the other SIP programs are started. If you just go to their main web site (www.diamondcard.us) you can sign up for an account and use that in Ekiga. I have not yet tested a camera, as I don't have one. Nonetheless, I have some credit by another SIP provider, so I tested this from Ekiga. I was able to make a call and it was not too bad but the quality was not very good (some noise introduced when somebody speaks, a bit choppy as well), although I tested several codecs. Then I tested Twinkle for the same thing and it worked great - completely clean voice from both sides! I am afraid that it might be caused by ALSA - if I use ALSA in Twinkle instead of OSS I have similar problems as in Ekiga which uses ALSA only. I also tried to make a video call but without success so far - both sides can see the webcam works fine in Ekiga when previewing before call but inside the call, there is no picture from remote side, on both sides.
